Guys! DISNEYS TRYING TO MAKEOVER MERIDA. PLEASE HELP BY SIGNING PETITION! PLEASE AND THANK YOU c8>
Okay I’m sorry but I need to rant about some people and their approach towards art.
So I know some people hang out with artists and stuff, but actually never really draw. That’s not a bad thing, you like to admire arts and think artists are cool. That’s nice.
But then there’s some people among those non-artists who, when asked “Hey why don’t you try drawing?”, go either along the lines of
A. “Oh I can’t possibly be good as you guys!”
B. “Ah sorry, I’m a perfectionist to make anything”
Okay I’m sorry but these two types of people sorta get me in a foul mood. Especially type B.
For type A, I will say the same line that I’ve always told unconfident artists, and how other artists told me when I myself am unconfident;
Don’t fucking compare your arts with others.
The thing about art is, there are different levels and different styles. There always will be, and it always depends on the artist’s efforts if they really want to change the way their art looks now. It’s nice to compare art and analyze how the other artists make their art look good. But using the “other artist was better” excuse to quit drawing/not try drawing is a big nono. A BIIIG nono. Cause if you WANT better arts, you HAVE to keep drawing.
And then there’s Type B. Type B I’m sorry but you’re not being a perfectionist in artist terms.
You’re being a lazy bastard.
I don’t want to be rude but seriously, not drawing any ideas you have because you think it’s not good enough? Not creating because you’re afraid it’ll look bad? That in art terms would mean you’ve done NOTHING.
Art’s not art until you actually put your ideas, your creations down on paper/canvas. The stuff in your head are just ideas, and not art unless you actually get it out in the open.
I mean come on. It’s like you’re watcing people play sports and someone comes up to you and is like “Wanna play with us?” and you’re like “Oh no, I can’t. I know how to play the game and made strategies in my head, but I’m a perfectionist and I don’t want to mess up.” Or like you love watching people cook and know a lot of receipts and how to cook in general but when asked to join in making some cake, you go “Oh no I’m a perfectionist so I don’t want to ruin this cake”
Do you get what I’m trying to say here? The sports team, the cooking group would both give you a “WTF?” look. You got the image of how to do things in your head? All these good strategies? Nice. Then why aren’t you using it? Why aren’t you setting your plans into motion? If you’re not using any of your ideas in your actions, you might as well consider them dead. Nothing.
You want to be an artist? Wanna be cool as those artists you admire? You won’t if you yourself don’t make a move. You’re not a fucking princess and no one’s going to magically give you art skills so you can frolic into the art ball room with your shiney abilities your derp fairy godmother gave you. Oh and remember, Cinderella didn’t have her pretty dress for long. There’s always a price guys.
Anyways, drawing numerous times is what gets you to improve. You can’t maagically obtain art skills. Sure some people may be born with it, but that doesn’t mean the “unskilled” can’t get skilled. Art tends to be reflected upon your experiences and environment. If you want more skill? I guess you just need more EXP. You draw something everyday. It can be a silly doodle, a hardcore painting, ANYTHING. Just keep your hands moving, and letting your body remember how to hold a pen/whatever art tool you have. Look around you and find things to use as a model for practice. Get out of your comfort zone and experience new things. It takes lots of effort and time but you WILL get results. I mean it.
You tried but you STILL can’t draw? KEEP TRYING. Who saids art is something you can master in a lifetime? Even the greatest artists out there are still suffering(or sadly died) trying to get their art right. Art in fact is a struggle that goes on forever. Srsly.
But the reason why people continue it? It’s cause they find some form of joy through it.
It could be that they find great joy in seeing comments on their arts, or that they can strive together with the artists they admire, maybe it’s cause they can see the results of their improvement after each work it’s done, or maybe cause they’ve grown very fond of their creations.
Maybe it relieves the stresses they get in their life, maybe it’s a way they spread a message they want to send out. Maybe they just really REALLY want to get this story, this experience they have down onto something, and art allows them to do that. Maybe it helps leave something behind showing that the person existed. Maybe it’s just used to make others happy.
Art is this endless battle of trying to understand it, and understanding yourself. Of course you can’t obtain anything in a short period of time, that goes for any skill. But that doesn’t mean you should panic that you’re slow, that doesn’t mean you suck. Everyone has different levels and speed, but in the end, everyone will improve if they keep at it, and never throw their pen down. It’s totally okay to take it slow, don’t rush yourself. Baby steps! One small step for artist, one giant leap for artist? YEAH.
It’s just like any other activity; you HAVE to keep at it if you wanna get better. But I think art is probably one activity that truly shows how much you improve, because you can just look back at your old works and see what changes have occurred.
And then you proceed to burning your old arts..Don’t tell me you suck, don’t tell me you’re too scared of showing shitty drawings. If you got hands, a body that allows you to draw, then you can totally get better at art.Hell there are people out there born with no hands that use their feet or mouths to hold their art tools.
CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGES GUYS.Making excuses and flailing on the floor isn’t gonna get you anywhere. That pretty much goes for anything right? Gotta get up and face it. Show’em who’s boss.So just shutup, take your damn art tool in your hand and MAKE SOMETHING. I know you can do it, I can do it and I know EVERYONE can do it.
I believe in you man. You got this.
;u; ~<3 Total agreement
30 day project starting off with this guy! \o/ Posting this only to tumblr to get into the habit of using it more XD
